Gall stones are concretion formed in the gallbladder or bile duct. The most common type is the cholesterol containing stone. It is classified in to cholesterol or pigment stones, although the majority are of mixed composition. Gall stones contain varing quantities of calcium salt. Including calcium biliruinate, carbonate, phosphate and palmitate, which are radiopaque. The incidence of gall stones in women is approx twice that in men. Obesity increases the risk.
Clinical features are biliary colic, Acute cholecystitis and chronic cholecystitis. Colic pain radiating to the back and right shoulder, usually occurs several hours after eating, when stomach is empty.
